LYRICS

Spymaster, double agent,

Guarding secrets and lies.

Welcome to the world, of mistrust and spies.

Hey, here I am

Here I stand

As I am

Take my hand

And we will fight – for freedom after midnight.

Spymaster, knighted by the Queen,

Double fighting machine.

One button communication, with 10 Downing Street.

Orchestrating, from Nelson’s Victory desk,

All the violent threats to be checked.

Hey, here I am

Here I stand

As I am

Take my hand

Wave them high

Reach the stars

Do not cry

Mend the scars

We will fight – for freedom after midnight.

(SOLO) (WHISPERS:)  FM    AM

Special Branch driver.

In customised suit.

Her Majesty’s

Secret Agent,

On the way and ready to shoot.

Take my hand

Take my hand

Take take my hand

We will fight – for freedom after midnight.

Here I am (won't you take my hand)

Here I am (won't you take my hand)

Here I am – for freedom after midnight.

NOTES

Written by Jozef Birling, November 2021

Welcome to the world of mysteries and spies! With the use of some haunting guitar chords reminiscent of the classic James Bond movie theme, being then contrasted with an uplifting chorus, this song juxtaposes the dark and light that can be seen in the world of intelligence. Inspired by the book of Gordon Thomas, “Inside British Intelligence”.

Jozef Birling: “When reading through the first pages of Thomas’ book, it sketched in my mind a very cinematic picture of the MI5 or MI6 boss sitting behind a computer at Admiral Nelson’s desk, checking and orchestrating all the chess pieces in the spy game; ultimately helping us all in the fight for preserving our freedom. It would be a curious fact and destiny in a way that it would be that desk that used to be on the Victory ship during the time of its dangerous but victorious endeavours at sea against the French. Of course, is the desk really there? It may also be just a rumour and not be true at all. Welcome to the world of mysteries and spies!“
